Dallas Clevenger Fundraiser for the Nael Estrada Kinder in Barrio LempiraOak Ridge
Personal message from Dallas:
“Last January, I had the privilege to travel to Roatan, Honduras on a Carthage J-Term trip. This was my first time leaving the United States, and this trip dramatically changed my life, as well as the way I see the world. I was so amazed by my travels last January that I decided to travel to Roatan once again on the same J-Term trip this January! My favorite part of this trip was speaking to all the different Honduran people and learning about their culture and lifestyles. I was introduced to some of the kindest people I have ever met, some of which I am still friends with today. A life changing moment on this trip for me was visiting a bilingual school and being allowed to donate school items that we brought with us. Notebooks, pens, and pencils seemed like such a minor thing to me, but I never could have imagined the amount of joy it brought these young children. This moment is what has inspired me to do something different this trip around.”
Pandemic Relief
The Roatan Children’s Fund is providing masks for school age children on the Island. In addition to masks, the fund will provide hand sanitizer and soap required to assist the schools in keeping kids healthy. All materials for the masks will be locally sourced to Island seamstresses and will help support the local economy.
Library Project
In 2019 the Roatan Children's Fund completed it's goal of putting in bookcases in all 28 Elementary Schools and every Kindergarten on the island. Thanks to our partner the Caribbean Children's Fund for filling all the bookcases with new English, Spanish and bilingual books.
Construction Project - Pedro Nufio School
The Roatan Children’s Fund was a major contributor to helping build a new classroom at the Pedro Nufio School in Politilly Bight. The original school was built many years ago with only two classrooms and the population has since grown thus two classrooms will not support the amount of children attending school. The new classroom now replaces the classes that were held at a picnic table underneath the tree in the school playground
